I took the reference photos for this painting near our cabin at Pine Mountain Lakein Groveland, CA in the Spring, 2021. The doe was just one of many in small herd but the sun was behind her and silhouetting her and the grass in the meadow in particularly beautiful way I thought. I did add the little creek, but there was a similar creek very nearby. There were lots of California Poppies and Bluebells in the area too, which added a lot to the serenity of the moment. There were some turkeys and geese in the area, but I wanted the painting to focus on the doe and not get too busy. Hope you enjoy it,
