“Falls in the Forest”
I’ve recently painted a couple of pictures (“Bearly Morning” including Giessbach Falls – Switzerland Vacation and “Cool Clear Water” inspired by “Angler in a Forest Interior” by Thomas Hill) that combine the fading sunlight, the darkness of the deep forest, and flowing water. I love the calmness and serenity that these scenes evoke. I created the composition for this painting on Photoshop, combining several waterfall photos I had along with, the tree on the left, which came from an older photo I had taken on Corral Hollow Road near Livermore California, and the river actually came from a photo I took of the runoff of Bridleveil Falls in Yosemite. This painting was finished in April, 2020 during the height of the Corona Virus outbreak. The lockdown gave me plenty of time to relax and paint. I think the quiet mood of the subject helped me to enjoy all the time at home. Of all of my paintings (I lost count 30-40 years ago) this is now one of my all-time favorite paintings. Oil on canvas. 5 coats of Damar varnish.
